Steph’s Smitten List: Hydrangea Cupcakes, Somewhere in America, Tea Cups

This week, I’m positively smitten with:

1. Hydrangea Cupcakes: I really don’t mind winter. I love living in New England, so I’m fully prepared for the four seasons. But I miss my flowers. This is the only season of the year that I look out at my yard and don’t see at least something growing from the earth. I especially miss hydrangeas, my absolute favorite flowering plant, with gorgeous blooms and colors. Fortunately, my kitchen stays open all year long, and so I’ll be dreaming of my lovely garden by baking these beautiful homemade hydrangea cupcakes. They seem easy and look like perfect little blooms – almost too perfect to eat!

2. Somewhere in America: This video is powerful, period. In about 3 minutes, Belissa Escobedo, Rhiannon McGavin, and Zariya Allen, all part of a non-profit organization called Get Lit, bring attention to all the issues their generation is facing in America. The moment these three young women start speaking, their performance takes flight and you are swept up in their strong message and confident delivery.

3. Tea Cups: I don’t drink a lot of tea, but I will find any excuse to use a tea cup. Not just any mug with a handle, but the dainty cups with small handles, painted with a pretty design, and with a matching saucer. That’s exactly the kind I like. I believe it’s a royal treat to sip from a cup so elegant. I have a relatively modest collection of mismatched tea cups – some passed down in the family, some from flea markets and antique stores. When I see one for sale on a shelf, looking old and charming, I can barely resist adding it to my collection. Now, I just have to plan a tea party!
