Steph’s Smitten List: Rehab Addict, Sewing Nooks, All About That (Upright) Bass

This week, I’m positively smitten with:

1. Rehab Addict: I recently became hooked on DIY and HGTV’s home renovation show Rehab Addict, in which host Nicole Curtis literally saves historic homes with her own two hands (and the help of her team!). Not only does this show give me an appreciation for original hardwood floors, brick walls, and anything that comes with homes built over a hundred years ago, but I am so inspired by Nicole. She’s confident about her decisions, brilliant when it comes to knowing how to strip a house down to bare bones, incredibly talented enough to rebuild top to bottom, and as tough as nails when she uses power tools and heavy machinery. I love her positive attitude and how she steps right in on almost every aspect of the project. She’s also a single mom who saves money where she can and is a super upcycler. Even if you don’t have an old home, you will get a kick out of this fierce chick.

2. Sewing Nooks: I basically love any small space that’s prepped for a specific activity, such as a reading nook or a crafting nook. My latest is my sewing nook, a dedicated space in the corner of my freshly-painted office where I keep my sewing supplies. Because of the tight space, I had to get creative about disguising piles of thread, buttons, fabrics, and other supplies so I brought in beautiful boxes from Michaels. Now this is one of my favorite spots in the house…and hopefully I’ll begin using my sewing machine more often!

3. All About That (Upright) Bass: I don’t want to take anything away from Meghan Trainor, but I am totally smitten with this cover of her song, “All About That Bass.” In this version, Kate Davis plays an actual upright bass with a drummer and pianist, turning the song into an amazing sounding jazz number. Plus I was in band all throughout my school years, so I’m impressed by her musical talent for singing and playing a difficult instrument simultaneously (which we don’t see enough of!). What do you think?

What are you positively smitten with?
