This week, I’m positively smitten with…
1. You Don’t Own Me: A few weeks ago, this video was created by the Department of Peace to help encourage young women to vote during midterm elections (where voter turnout tends to be relatively low). Set to the song “You Don’t Own Me” by Lesley Gore (which I am now officially obsessed with), the video features young women — including celebrities and public figures like Tracee Ellis Ross, Natasha Lyonne, Tavi Gavinson, Alia Shawkat, Carrie Brownstein, and Sia — lip-syncing to the song. It’s a great video and a great song, and very appropriate for today, Election Day!
2. Sia: Speaking of Sia, who was in the video above, I’ve been loving her lately. You’ve probably bobbed your head to her catchy single “Chandelier” and her whole recent album, 1000 Forms of Fear, is just as fantastic. I was pretty excited to learn that she would be contributing to the soundtrack for the upcoming “Annie” remake, starring the adorable Quvenzhane Wallis. While Sia’s reimagined song “You’re Never Fully Dressed Without a Smile” is great, it’s the video that really sells it.
3. What Would Yeezus Wear: What Would Yeezus Wear is the brainchild of two friends who re-create the fashionable outfits worn by Kim Kardashian, Kanye West, and their baby, North. It’s weird, but I love it. I have a soft spot for any endeavor involving two BFFs, but I also think it’s pretty creative (and sometimes hilarious) to see how these two friends are able to make the Kim/Kanye/North outfits work for them.
