13 Ways to Feel Confident Fast | Positively Smitten

If confidence was all about waking up on the right side of the bed and starting out strong, then most of us would be good to go. But confidence needs to last, and you need to be able to reach back in your pocket and pull on that cloak, whether you feel knocked down by a left-field question from your boss, you are questioned by your significant other on the way you did something, you need to negotiate with a car salesperson, or you’re headed to a blind date. Whatever the situation, it’s all about faking it if you’re not really feeling it. While real confidence is believed deep within your core, and therefore developed over time, it is possible to feel confident, fast. Looking, feeling, and acting like you’re confident helps turn you into Superwoman. Eventually, you will believe it and be it. In the meantime, take my tips for when I need to put on my cloak of courage right now:

  • Get a manicure. Or just do it yourself. Nothing makes you feel good like a fresh coat of nail paint. Try OPI Red Apple.
  • If it’s not a manicure, have it be a fresh haircut, a new lip gloss, an at-home facial, a spin class. You deserve that which makes you feel good simply because. Leverage those feel-good vibes to help you soar.
  • Get plenty of sleep. Your mind is clearer and you’re way more pleasant when well rested.
  • Have a full stomach. And make that healthy food. You’ll feel your most confident when you’re putting good stuff in on a regular schedule.
  • Wear your power suit. Or your go-to ballet flats and sundress. Whatever your most comfortable and flattering outfit is. You know the power of your best look.
  • Set your computer background as inspirational quotes that change out every 15 minutes.
  • Read the comments on an online article… any article. You may need a reminder that you are not the only one dealing with Negative Nancies, pessimists, and rude, obnoxious people. That should let you breath a sigh of relief.
  • Wear your best necklace and lift your chest to show it off to the world. The act of doing so will improve your posture and make a world of difference in how you come across to others (I got this tip from Popular: Vintage Wisdom for a Modern Geek).
  • Listen to Alicia Keys’ Girl on Fire. Or any song that gets you feeling on top of the world. We know you’ve got at least one!
  • Open up a map of the world and focus in on a far away country. Realize that you are very small in the scheme of things (phew) and yet over here in your little world, you’re important to a whole bunch of people.
  • Go ahead and call those people to ask for a few words of encouragement, or what they admire about you.
  • Remind yourself that 1) What other people think of you is not your business. 2) Your job is not to make sure everybody likes you.
  • Look in the mirror, smile, and say “who better than me to {fill in the blank}?”
