Crystal’s Smitten List: Medieval POC, Skinnytaste, Advanced Style

This week, I’m smitten with…

1. Medieval POC: When I was younger, I was convinced I would grow up to be an artist; while I didn’t exactly end up with immaculate artistic skills, that hasn’t lessened my love for art. Medieval POC is a blog that helps keep that admiration alive and well. The blog showcases art not just from the medieval time period, but from any time period up through the 1700s. Its mission states: “The focus of this blog is to showcase works of art from European history that feature People of Color. All too often, these works go unseen in museums, Art History classes, online galleries, and other venues… Sometimes it’s just about really looking at artworks you’ve seen many times before, with a fresh perspective.” I love it!

2. Skinnytaste: If you’re ever on the hunt for a new, healthy recipe to try, I’d highly recommend Skinnytaste. I’ve been following this blog for a while now and every item I’ve ever made has come out great — which is pretty rare when you combine “random internet recipe” with “healthy.” She often has healthy alternatives to comfort foods, including desserts. She even recently released a cookbook! Some of my favorite Skinnytaste recipes have been her Skinny Italian Turkey MeatballsCrock Pot Picadillo (pictured below); and Three Cheese Tortellini and Mushroom Soup.

3. Advanced Style: I just came across this fashion blog, but I already adore it. Created by Ari Seth Cohen, Advanced Style chronicles the fashion choices of stylish older women and men. This blog helps to show that life doesn’t stop after 50, and it reminds me to live life to the fullest, no matter what.
