This week, I’m smitten with…
1. Cosmos: Last Sunday, the 13-episode science show called “Cosmos” debuted on Fox and the National Geographic channel. I immediately knew I wanted to start watching — first, it’s hosted by astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson, who I love. I got to see him at a talk last year and he was incredible. Second, I love science (especially space), but I have trouble getting into it on my own because it feels so overwhelming. “Cosmos” is intended to makes science slightly more digestible. It. Is. Amazing. I watched the first episode over the weekend and immediately got hooked. There was so much I learned that I didn’t know; it was also visually stunning. The show left me completely awestruck, and also a bit moved — deGrasse Tyson delved into his history with Carl Sagan, a story that’s enough to make anyone a bit misty-eyed. If you get a chance to watch, I highly encourage you to check it out. Episodes are available online here.
2. Luvocracy: As if I needed another excuse to shop, Luvocracy is a site that makes it easy to see products from various different sites. It’s set up to look like Pinterest, except that each “pin” leads you instead to a product. You can search by category or price, and see products recommended by people you “trust” (you select these individuals yourself). The items are a mix of quirky and creative. Goodbye, paychecks.
3. Clothing swaps: Not the type of clothing swaps where everyone brings an outfit and you all trade (although those are cool, too) — but the clothing swap featured in a photography series called “Spring-Autumn.” In it, grandchildren and their grandparents swap clothes, for some really adorable results. I love it!
