This week, I’m smitten with…
1. Black Widow: I really enjoy the Marvel film franchise, but many fans have felt like Black Widow — the only female superhero in the Marvel universe up until “Avengers: Age of Ultron” — has been treated unfairly. While male superheroes like Thor, Iron Man, and Captain America have their own multi-part films, Black Widow, who has been in the franchise the second longest, has yet to get her own film (and, as far as I know, there aren’t plans for one). So that’s why I love this SNL skit that finally creates a trailer for the hypothetical Marvel film for Black Widow — in the form of a romcom. It’s a fun, cute spoof, and Black Widow looks fab in that cardigan.
2. #GirlYouDontNeedMakeup: I’ve previously gushed over Amy Schumer and her show, Inside Amy Schumer. Recently, she made headlines when her show spoofed boybands with a song called “Girl, You Don’t Need Makeup.” Schumer then launched the campaign #GirlYouDontNeedMakeup, which encouraged women to share photos of themselves bare-faced and makeup-free. Fans contributed to the hashtag, including young women who shared cross-generational photos of themselves with their moms and grandmas (those were some of my favorites). I love the message, and I love Amy!
3. Tulips: I don’t know much about flowers, but I do know what I find pretty. Lately, I’m loving tulips! They’ve bloomed on the college campus where I work, and they’re a gorgeous reminder that spring is here.
