Steph’s Smitten List: Messy Buns, Decorating Magazines, Burlap

magazines

This week I’m positively smitten with:

1. Messy Buns: Messy buns are a life saver. I do my very best to not wash my hair every day because I know that over-washing can produce excess oil. However, day-old hair doesn’t look all that pretty when it’s down, so up it goes in a bun. A little twisting and securing in place and I’m good to go. I find that on messy bun days, I get compliments on my “hairstyle.” Proof that sometimes pulling your hair off your face – even when into something “messy” – is all that it takes to look stylish!messy bun

2. House & Decorating Magazines: I’m a magazine junkie – magazines of all kinds. But when I need inspiration for the physical space I live in and around, I flip open a magazine that’s full of beautiful gardens, landscaped yards, and houses of all different styles. I love looking at how other people use their homes for functionality and set them up for comfort and beauty. The down side – these magazines tend to cost upwards of $10 at the grocery store or pharmacy — eeks! But I just can’t resist a stack of them on my coffee table for visual inspiration. I never toss them!

3. Burlap: I’m in a pretty serious burlap phase right now. I bought the entire bolt of beautiful gold-specked burlap from Walmart, and loved it so much I ordered more online. Burlap is both rustic and artistic, perfect for a casual country girl like me who likes elegance and simplicity. I’m finding ways to incorporate it into many aspects of my wedding, from the bouquets to the table settings. Who knew there were so many amazing things you could use burlap for, especially in arts and crafts? Check out this quick video to make your own no-sew burlap table runners.
