This week, I’m positively smitten with:
1. Chess: I’m as addicted to my devices as the next person, which is perhaps why it felt so good to pull out my chess board from childhood on a recent frigid Saturday and start playing again. One game led to two, and before I knew it, my fiancé and I had spent hours hunched over the coffee table. I felt my brain cells growing. Of course, it helped that we had some fun, cold drinks to keep us focused for so long.
2. Real Girl’s Kitchen: You already know how much I love cookbooks and cooking shows on television, but I’m officially obsessed with my latest find: a series on the Cookie Channel called Real Girl’s Kitchen with Haylie Duff. You know Haylie as an actress/singer/songwriter, but this girl is awesome in the kitchen and puts on a really inspiring show. Her personality is infectious and her ideas for how to turn food into fun (a guys versus girls cook-off, for example) are awesome for other twenty-somethings like myself. I’m so smitten.
3. Cake Toppers: I had been keeping an eye out for the perfect cake topper for my upcoming wedding, but none seemed unique enough, or didn’t represent us as a couple. Then my mom suggested I use my late grandmother’s topper from her 1956 wedding, and it was a perfect fit: special, unique, vintage, romantic, sentimental, and beautiful. I love the character and charm of cake toppers to begin with, but this is without a doubt my favorite. It is even, quite possibly, one of my favorite wedding details thus far.
