This week, I’m positively smitten with:
1. Emma Watson: While I didn’t follow the entire Harry Potter series, I am now a fan of Emma Watson (who played Hermione, of course) after hearing her speech on feminism at the UN recently. It’s certainly not the first speech on feminism, and it wasn’t the boldest of them, but the 24-year-old delivered a powerful message in her clear, calm voice. I encourage others to listen for yourselves and see how it moves you to help be part of the movement.
2. Coffee Shops: Not the chain coffee establishments, but those adorable ones carved right out of a scene from a movie. You know the ones where students study with headphones on in the corner and friends congregate in the top floor loft? Music plays overhead, artwork and inspiration hang from every wall, and a selection of fresh baked items call your name from behind a glass display case. And the coffee? Well, it’s more delicious than your own, and definitely more delicious than that of Dunkin’ Donuts or Starbucks. Yea, that’s the coffee shop I’m smitten with!
3. Pumpkin Carving: The handful of pumpkins I’ve carved in my life were not all that impressive. This year I’m determined to make one I’m proud of. To make this happen, I searched YouTube for DIY videos – and stumbled upon these young twins, Brooklyn and Bailey, whose “Decorating Pumpkins” video has just under 400,000 views! I don’t know their story but I love how they get right in there with power tools to make their “twin-tastic pumpkins.” I also love how relaxed they are as they go through the steps and wear safety glasses (too cute!). We’re used to watching adults host DIY videos. These girls are inspiring and talented.
