Steph’s Smitten List: Tone It Up, Carrot Cake Smoothies, Look Up

Tone it Up girls

This week I’m positively smitten with:

1. Tone It Up: As a girl who loves to work out, try new exercises, be healthy, and feel good about herself, I nearly died and went to heaven when I stumbled upon Tone It Up. These two BFFs have built a fitness franchise together. Their energy and passion for what they do are so inspiring, and their friendship makes you want to grab your girlfriends and spend quality time with them. Oh yea…and their video workouts, on which their careers took off, are set on beaches and beautiful settings. Each workout is fun and different, plus there’s zillions to choose from! Katrina and Karena embrace a strong, female body and focus on whole body/whole life wellness – they have a whole section dedicated to loving your body. I could watch – and work out to – these videos every day.

2. Carrot Cake Smoothies: Speaking of Tone It Up, I’m in love with this recipe on their website – a healthy smoothie that actually tastes like dessert. I made it for Mother’s Day because my mom loves carrot cake. Short on time and access to certain ingredients, I had to modify the recipe slightly. My version calls for 1/2 cup of fresh carrot juice (in the produce isle at the supermarket), 1 frozen banana, 1 tbs flaxseed, and 1 scoop of Greek vanilla bean yogurt. That’s it. The result is something delicious that you could treat yourself to every day…so I do! The flaxseed is filled with nutrients that leave me feeling full, and there’s flavor from the carrot juice and banana that satisfy my sweet tooth. A great breakfast drink! And Mom loved it too!

3. Look Up: This is a video gone viral that, I believe, is a must-see. It’s a five minute reminder to look up from your technology and social media to take in the actual, physical world around you. We all know by now that our health depends upon a life less connected to devices and more connected to people and experiences, but it’s so hard to put it all down. This video makes a strong case for how much we’re missing out on when we’re literally looking down. Plus, the narrator has a nice accent and rhymes throughout. Even so, after watching it, you’ll feel like you should close your laptop for the day.

What are you positively smitten with?

steph: great topic on the video. all too true, we have become incapable of human contact with people because of the lack of in person contact. where they can hear the inflection in the spoken word and the intent of what was said or meant. neanderthal that i am i’m happy if my phone can just make a call without interruption

  2. Isn’t this so true? I find that I sometimes have my laptop at the dinner table and I somehow am able to internally justify me having it there! Like, well, if I do this while I eat I’m saving time to NOT do it later. WRONG!
