This week I’m positively smitten with:
1. Books: There are two built-in, floor-to-ceiling shelving units in our living room. When we moved in, I threw my giant collection of books here, with no rhyme or reason. Recently I decided to organize these bookshelves with the intent of donating as many as I could (all part of my effort to live with less). Well, it was easier said than done. Most of the books I own represent a piece of me. Whether they’re signed copies of books from an author I was fortunate to meet, original editions of old classics (like Anne of Green Gables) or resource books that I love to buy but never read (like Basic Country Skills, Learn to Paint and 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, I just can’t find a reason to let go. It’s like losing a piece of me that I kind of want to hang on to. So I’ve made an executive decision: when it comes to books, there’s no such thing as having too many.
2. T-shirt Quilts: So, in addition to books, I’ve also been trying to purge old T-shirts. Talk about another type of personal belonging that’s hard to get rid of! Our favorite T-shirts came from our best memories: a club we were in, a sports team we love, a family vacation souvenir, a great quote you found on a shirt once and had to have, etc. There’s a reason we bought the shirts in the first place, only now they’re old, small, smelly, or you never even wore them. Enter T-shirt Quilts – old tees turned into quilts! You can easily look online to make one yourself or ship out your shirts to have someone do it for you. Right now, all of mine are waiting patiently in a bag, and I can’t wait to see them turned into a beautiful keepsake.

3. Cinnamon Rolls: This doesn’t need much explanation. Anyone who’s ever had a cinnamon roll knows they’re sinfully delicious: warm, soft, and oozing with icing. They’re not something you should really eat every day, but once in a while is perfectly fine. My favorite cinnamon roll recipe belongs to The Pioneer Woman. They took me forever to make but I was practically knocked dead by their amazingness when it was all said and done. Yum.
