This week, I’m positively smitten with:
1. French Press: I enjoy a cup of coffee every morning, and now and then when I’m at the library or strolling city streets (see below). Problem is, I can never really make the perfect cup myself. This weekend, we purchased a French press (a coffee brewing device) because it looked pretty, and I cannot believe how much I’m enjoying my morning coffee now. With no additional skills necessary, I can make rich, flavorful coffee in the same amount of time that it would take to make a “normal” pot of coffee, except this is more fun to prepare, better tasting, and fancier looking. It’s practically like I did gain a new skill in the process: the art of making French press!
2. Window Shopping: Who doesn’t feel smitten while strolling down a bustling sidewalk, preferably with a hot drink in hand from a local café (perhaps a French press?), while peeping into the windows of all the stores? I don’t even have to go in the stores and physically spend money to feel like I’m treating myself; I can honestly say it’s fun just to walk around and get inspired by what I’m looking at, whether it’s home décor, clothes, or baked goods. Of course, it helps that I’m usually visiting the Big City, a popular downtown area with old cobblestone streets, or a tourist location while window shopping, so I’m already feeling happy. But it’s actually therapeutic if you look and not always touch. Give it a try!
3. Decluttering: Living with less is all the rage these days – I think it’s even a social movement. Just look online and you’ll find a million examples of people making a commitment (or at least an attempt) to live more simply. From downsizing their homes to doll house-like dwellings and paring their clothes down to a handful of items, to ridding all of their cupboards of duplicates and tossing (or donating) what has no value, purpose, sentimental meaning, or simply isn’t being used. Oprah is championing a “decluttered” life, and I’m so excited to jump on the bandwagon too!
