Crystal’s Smitten List: Hermione Granger, Mini Cannoli, Love Notes

This week, I’m positively smitten with…

1) Hermione Granger: If you’re a fan of “Harry Potter,” you were probably surprised to learn author J.K. Rowling’s recent revelation that she should have had Hermione and Harry end up together rather than Hermione and Ron. What?! There are lots of things J.K. Rowling should have re-examined in her books, but the love between Ron and Hermione isn’t one of them. What’s more, I’m pretty shocked to hear Hermione Granger talked about as if she were merely a pawn between the two boys in the story. Hermione Granger is a badass motherfucker, the brightest witch of her age, and inspired a generation of young women who wanted to be just like Hermione. Long live the lovely Hermione Granger; without her brilliance, Harry and Ron would have probably died in book one.

2) Mini cannoli: While I’ll admit I’m not a huge Super Bowl fan for the sports aspect, I love to check out the commercials, the halftime show, and the food! This year, there was tons of amazing food at the Super Bowl parties I attended, but I really, really loved my mom’s version of mini cannoli! They were delicious and adorable to look at.

3) Love notes: My boyfriend, Bill, is always finding new ways to surprise me. One tradition we’ve had since we first started dating is to leave each other little notes where the other will find them. Recently, after a bout with anxiety, I found this note written on our white board. It made me feel really, really loved.

  1. RE Hermione Granger “without her brilliance, Harry and Ron would have probably died in book one.”

Remember in Hallows Pt 2, Ron says, “Don’t ask us. You’re the brilliant one!” (I’m surprised this quote didn’t go massively viral opening night, on all the girl’s and women’s sites.)
